West Africa: Waiting is not an option. We must act now.

West Africa food crisis

With food reserves at critically low levels, hunger is on the rise in the Sahel region of West Africa. Families are barely scraping by – many are down to one meager meal a day and the next harvest is months away. Months of malnutrition have taken a heavy toll.

More than 18 million people in Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali, Chad, Gambia and Senegal are in the grip of a serious food crisis. Without immediate action to provide access to food and clean water – and care for struggling livestock – their suffering and losses will be compounded.

Oxfam is on the ground in some of the worst-affected areas. We're supplying seeds and tools, rehabilitating wells and helping farmers and herders provide food and veterinary care to their livestock. But in order to ramp up our efforts and reach more people, we urgently need your help.

Please donate to the West Africa Food Crisis Fund today.
